Open your heart - hear my voice! Refugee-report provides a platform for refugees to get their stories heard. It was created in 2013 and is motivated by the simple desire to help and support people who live under the stigmatising banner “Refugee”. On the website refugee-report.de their audio statements are published anonymously. Refugees were very present in German and European media in the last two years: Germany saw refugees marching from Würzburg to Berlin 2012 and the creation of the protest camp in Kreuzberg which lasted until April 2014. Each year thousands of people die when trying to cross the Mediterranean Sea. Only the most tragic events like the shipwreck near Lampedusa in october 2013 make it into the news. But refugees are seldom represented as individuals in the media. To counter this, the initial idea of refugee-report was to let people speak: without constraining them with questions, without cutting their speech when publishing and without imposing a language.
